Chia seeds health benefits are enormous for dogs, since they are extremely nutritious. By now Chia seeds can be found on many of the world’s healthiest food lists. They were cultivated by the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas; in the Mayan language, chia means “strength” and were already used for relieving joint pain and skin conditions.

What makes Chia seeds so good for our pets?

By weight, Chia has ten times the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids as salmon! Omega-3 promotes healthy cells, an intact immune system, healthy skin and coat as well as a good brain development and maintenance. Chia contains more calcium than whole milk, more iron than raw spinach and more magnesium than broccoli. Plus they’re an excellent source of antioxidants which fight the production of free radicals and makes them a great choice as stress-busting and immune system boosting food.

In practice the regular consumption of Chia seeds can help to reduce chronic inflammation and to reduce and control weight. The fiber absorbs large amounts of water and expands in the stomach, which should increase fullness and slow the absorption of food.

Of course Chia seeds can also be given raw, but the best and most delicious way is to combine it with pure high quality meat.
